During this semester i feel like i have progressed. I am now able to do hip hop and many other kinds of dance. When the hip hop teacher came in to class, I thought it was a lot of fun and I felt like I was finally able to pick it up and learn it just as fast as I learn ballet or jazz. I also enjoyed learning the dances from the students and i thought it also helped me advance my dance skills. The abs that we do in class I can now take home and work on. I feel like dance this past semester has helped me learn and advance as a dancer and I hope next year will be just as good.

I for sure think that I have progressed a lot this semester. I feel like it is a lot easier for me to stretch and I have become a lot more flexible this semester. Also, I learn the things across the floor a lot faster than I did last semester and I never feel behind when we are learning dances, and I sometimes felt behind everyone last semester. Also, since we've been doing a lot of ab work outs, I feel like my abs are getting a lot more toned and I'm able to handle the work outs a lot easier since I am used to them. It's going to be weird not having a dance class everyday next year, I'm hoping to join a yoga class or something in college so I can still be moving around at least once a week. I enjoyed this class a lot!

As the year comes to end I started reflecting back on the goals I set for myself at the begg. of the semester. I feel when it comes to an ab-workout I got it down, but it still takes some time for me to understand movements completly. It takes me longer to remeber the steps and how they go together as a whole, and then I get confused and want to give up, but as the semester progressed I did the moves and looked weird rather than not doing them at all. One of my goals was to take the time to understand the movements and I feel that is also something i accomplished, I really try to understand how it goes together and the footings and where your arms go. Hopefully if I end up taking a dance class or any form of movement in college I apply such skills!

One of my goals is to explore a variety of movement. I'm so used to hip hop, that i find it interesting when our class time is focused on ballet, or when we do different types of core workouts. Another goal i have is to become better at spotting! A turn can't be good unless you spot! :)

At the start of the year, I was a lot more hesitant with our workouts and phrases because I wasn't quite comfortable yet with using my body in such a way. I hadn't really danced over the summer or done any intense ab workouts . As the year progressed, I felt like I fell more into the groove of the class. I knew what to expect, I understood more of the technique and how to get my body to move as it should. For this final quarter, I would like to let myself go even further. I often intellectualize what we're supposed to do even though you tell us that just gets us confused. I'm trying to trust my own body instincts more to guide me through the entire movement. I'd also like to train my body to be fit and strong. I find that I'm a lot more energetic and awake for class when I am :P

My main goal for this semester is to get into great shape! (and what's a better way than dance class?) I also want to work on getting my energy levels up. I know that movement is a wonderful way to gain energy for throughout the day. I have really enjoyed the pilates days, as well as yoga Wednesdays. I feel that this class has been a fun way to become a healthier person. I plan to work hard on a daily bases to earn my A in this class.

A goal in particular that I would like to set for myself is to make use of all of the different approaches we have toward movement. Maybe it's not as much of a goal as it is a challenge for myself. I want to broaden my "style" and really just step out of my own little box and explore more with my movement and choreography as a dancer. It is a challenge I set for myself for the spring show choreogrphy for orchesis and I hope to continue to explore these methods.

This semester in dance I hope to be more serious about it than last semester. I want to be open to lots of different movement and really try even if I end up looking funny :) . I think that is definitely the most difficult for me, seeing someone do something and thinking "There is no way I can do this." I'm always uncomfortable during the hip hop days because I don't think my body moves that way, but I hope I can let all inhibitions aside and really try the moves, at least someone might get a good laugh out of it. I feel that I'll earn an A by effectively participating in group projects and doing my reviews and just doing what we're asked in class. I feel that this semester is different than last already because everyone in third hour takes it a lot more seriously and that puts me in the right mindset.
