yes, I really enjoyed the relaxation, it really relaxed me. I will definitely use some of these methods this week especially because the finals really stressed me out and I want to relax. I will do some exercised like listening to my breathing and just clearing my mind.
January 16th, 2008 at 6:33 pmI agree with Jessica, i really felt that the meditation helped to reduce some of the stress from finals. Also, i thought it helped me feel more focused throughout the rest of the day. I definately think that i will try some of the techniques that she taught us, to try and help refocus and relax before starting homework or before going to bed. I thought it was really interesting to learn a little about what other people do to help get them through the week, even though i found it hard to sit still for that long.
January 17th, 2008 at 11:03 pmI did enjoy the meditation. Although it was tough for me to stay relaxed. my mind wanders easily and it wasnt very successful. I find it to be a wonderful thing to do when stressed out, but in class, for me, it probably would have been better to have a relaxation. To be honest, the meditation pose was really uncomfortable and maybe even painful after a while, so for me thats what probably brought my mind back to wandering. But it was a learning experience.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:48 pmMeditaion is a great thing. It helps you relax, stay calm, and refreshes your mind body and soul. I enjoy it alot, but also find it better to be in the lay down position instead of indian style. Furthermore, if i lay down then i have to try to stay more forcused otherwise i’ll fall asleep. But overall, meditaion is nice to do here and there and i would like to try to do it a few times a week.
January 24th, 2008 at 10:02 amI enjoyed the meditation. I was really able to clear my mind for a few minutes. The breathing exercises helped to calm my heartrate. It’s helpful during high-stress times to take a few minutes and some deep breaths. I didn’t like having to sit up with a straight back. I would get tired and start to slouch which would make my mind wander and I couldn’t focus. I enjoy lieing down during meditation. If you’re really tired then it can be dangerous because you might fall asleep. I personally feel more relaxed lieing down and can achieve more relaxation. I could picture this being helpful when I’m trying to fall asleep. Sometimes I lie around thinking about different things so maybe next time I’ll use some of these meditation practices to clear my mind before sleep.
January 29th, 2008 at 12:50 pmYes. I really loved the meditation…..even though my legs fell asleep for a while. She said it was normal, but once that happened it was really hard to concentrate on the things that she was saying. But overall it was great, it really did relax me…..and it was absolutely awesome because finals were next. I loved how i was focusing on her voice and I could imagine colors. I will use these methods because it is true, I never get a chance to clear my mind and reflect or just stay quiet and calm and listen to my breathing.
January 29th, 2008 at 6:16 pmI loved the meditation!! I find myself so often not being able to focus my mind on studying or just thinking about the events of my day and the meditation really helps to calm all the thoughts in my head and focus on what I’m doing. I’ve tried doing the calm slow breathing before I go to bed and I’ve found I get a better nights sleep and I get to sleep quicker than when I let my mind ramble and wonder.
February 22nd, 2008 at 10:43 amEver since we had meditation day in class I have been trying to take at least one minute of my day in silence focusing on my breathing. With the poms season coming to a close, orchesis, and school it gets to be a little busy, so I take a moment to just relax. Meditation really does relieve stress. From meditation I have learned to just take a day at a time. Sometimes meditation can be difficult when you are in an uncomfortable position, or you just can’t clear your head. Because of this I have found that sitting indian style against a wall with my eyes closed before I go to sleep is most effective. Recently in Psychology class we have studied a unit on stress and meditation was brought up in the text and conversations about good ways to cope with stress. I definintely agree that meditation is great.
February 23rd, 2008 at 1:34 pmThe meditation has been great, especially when it’s in the middle of a busy day and gives me a chance to slow down and breath. It’s made me realize that I think way too much. I have an extremely hard time focusing my mind on one thing or trying to think of nothing at all. I think more people should meditiate, because it’s a simple way to calm down and just let the stress out of your body. Our lives are so busy, were always on the go, whether it be studying, dancing or just freaking out, meditation is something everyone can benifit from.
March 16th, 2008 at 1:31 pmI LOVE MEDITATION! We are currently talking about stress factors in psychology and ways to reduce stress as well. Relaxation came up amongst other topics and I immediately thought of meditation in dance class. It is definitely a way to relax your mind and your body at the same time and I really think it works inside and out. It relaxes me and puts me in a better mood. It helps me for that short amount of time to calm down and give my mind a rest. It is also nice to have a moment to myself I often feel like I am running from place to place or dance to dance and its really nice to have a time where I only need to concentrate on my breathing.
March 17th, 2008 at 6:47 pmThe more meditation we do the more I find it useful. The moments we spend focusing on ourselves internally is really energizing and gives a sense of placement for the rest of the day. It really relaxes your body; and allows your mind to take a break from all of the tasks at hand for the day. When we sit and focus on breathing, posture, and the guided “story” (I guess you could say) it really allows all the problems to fall away- and the calming sensation to take over. It puts me in a better mood, and makes me feel much more awake when we are finished. It gives me a break from my day; we are all so always in demand with different things happening, its a really nice break to collect my thoughts and center myself. It is something I would love to make more time for each day, and it has become extremely useful.
March 22nd, 2008 at 12:13 amI have been meditating for about 3 years now and have found some of the best experiences I have had with meditation have been in this class. The tape we used was actually not bad, but I do prefer to meditate on my own or guided by an actual person. I love meditating so much, it really helps relax me and keep me focused throughout the day. I think it would be very beneficial to everyone to just take one minute a day and just stop thinking about anything. Just one minute to collect oneself and calm oneself doesn’t sound like a big deal, but I think it could really make a difference in stress levels amongst adults.
April 1st, 2008 at 7:57 amI loved meditation. I wish we could do this every other day. It is such a relaxing way to experience class. It makes me feel refreshed for the school day and I found out that it helped me focus a lot better in my classes the rest of the day. I loved the way it made me feel and it helped me forget about all the drama and issues of the week. I loved it!
April 1st, 2008 at 11:04 amI thought the meditation was very affective. Dance class is right in the middle of my day, and relaxation is a great way for me to get my mind off school. The most difficult part for me is my posture. I need to sit against a wall to keep my back straight. The guided rest and breathing activities are more helpful for me because otherwise I just fall asleep. I like listening to Julie talk about the different colors of fluid going through my body. I find that meditation relaxes my entire body and reduces a lot of stress. When I complete a 40 minute rest in dance class I feel so much better! Sometimes I try this at home after school before practice, but it is not as good without the instructions.
April 3rd, 2008 at 8:19 pmi love love love meditation, it gets me relaxed and foucused. i think that 4th hour is a good hour to meditate becuase its in the middle of the day and any thing that has been stressing you out all day can finally be forgotten, and when meditating you can consentrate on yourself, your body and your mind. i hope we can keep doing this every wednesday!!!!!!! =]
May 1st, 2008 at 10:52 amI love the new cleansing meditation we did yesterday it really made everyone much more relaxed and focused. Every time we finish a meditation people seem to be nicer and not as irritable. I believe that we should try more types of meditation to really see if there is an effect on everyone and their connection with meditation.
May 16th, 2008 at 7:35 amI love meditation; although, for some reason I find it very hard to do. It always tell you to clear your mind but I find that very difficult to do. Perhaps it’s because I’m a teenager and we always have a million things on our minds, even if there shouldn’t be. On top of that, I find that focusing on my breathing and listening to my heart beat is sort of reminiscent of Edgar Allen Poe’s “Tell Tale Heart.” Ha, I suppose that seems slightly morbid, but it’s very true. My mind does nothing but wonder from one subject to another, but I am still going to try. My mom thinks that, maybe, just maybe it will finally help me to calm down and shut me up some. Thank you, Mrs. Salk
